Has anyone else noticed the rest of the human race appears to have no clue how to manoeuvre a trolley? Not to mention how expensive food is! $5 for an avocado?! Highway robbery I tell you! Here are our top three tips for keeping your grocery shopping cheap and stress-free.
#1 – PLAN AHEAD
Plan ahead your weekly meals and write a comprehensive shopping list before you leave. This will save you stress, unnecessary shopping trips, the “uhhhh what should we have for dinner?” “I dunno what do you feel like?” decision will be out of the way, and you’ll be less tempted to get take-out.
#2 – CHECK THE DELI
More often than not things like chicken and ham are on sale at the deli. Rather than buying your meat already packaged, get it from the deli for sometimes half the price. You can also choose your exact portion, don’t be afraid to ask for half a slice of ham if need be!
#3 – HUNT FOR BARGAINS
Structure your shopping trip around bargains and specials. If a product you regularly purchase is on special, buy it in bulk! It may be more expensive now, but you’ll thank yourself later. If bacon is half price at the deli, buy a kilo and chuck 3/4 of it in the freezer. Bacon for days!
ADDITIONAL TIP: Check out fresh food markets for your fruit and veg, they’ll be much fresher and cheaper there!
